[ietf78-tech] Works on Dutch Rail

[yeah, travel discussion, here too. I do apologise..]

Dutch Rail's network is very busy. As the summer vacation is ongoing.
they use the reduction in passengers to do maintenance they'd
rather not do during prime time.

Since some of you arrive on 20 and 21 july, if you're travelling
from Schiphol, you're affected by one of these works.
http://ns.nl/werktrajecten/index.form#werkzaamheden-2010_ut_tl_19_21jul
Information is poor (as usual), not available in English (as usual),
and late (as usual).

Looks like either you'll be routed over a different path (you need
to change trains, and the ride will be a little longer)
or you'll get a bus instead of train for part of the ride (also extra time).

My advice is to buy a ticket at the ticket office, ask for advice
at the moment you buy the ticket, and identify yourself with
the Dutch Rail staff as you enter the train and ask for assistance.
My experience is that they will tell you about platform changes etc
especially for foreign travellers, and it avoids the
"funny, this train is empty-ing, what was the announcement all about?".

These works are only for 19-20-21 july so do not affect the
IETF group at large. I'd never see the end of this on the mailing list
if there would be works...

Oh, the difference with international trains (frankfurt, bruxelles)
is that typically their information is worse. Same procedure:
identify yourself to tailway staff, say where you want to go,
and you'll be fine.

Anyway, good luck everyone, if you really get stuck call +31 6 39792302
(Menno, Sjoerd, wanna give your numbers to fellow NOC staff in case
they get stuck?)

Not sure when the other AMS staff arrives but Marcia, pls forward
if appropiate.

GJ

PS: what's the word on the arrivals/contact list?
