Thanks for the reminder, I didn't consider that as I was worried
about getting prepaid data service at all (you can't enable data
on a SIMM with a knife).
iPAD currently hasn't even been introduced here, so their sales channels
aren't set up yet for this, and once they do get cards, they'll go
to their subscription customers first.
We all know that a mobile subscription is a license to get raped,
and this again demonstrates the fact.
I made calls to Vodaphone and KPN this morning.
We all know how these call centres work and how reliable the results are,
but for both KPN and Vodaphone:
- Both do sell prepay with data
- Data (euros / bits) isn't cheap, but I expected that
- None currently have microSIMMs for prepay, and both suggested
cutting a SIMM to size.
- Given the dynamics of IETF, both said they could re-stock their
outlets within a day should sudden demand cause the outlet to run out.
So, in brief, it's possible, it's not cheap, and do bring xacto knife.
Hope this helps,
Geert Jan
