Randy,

The same AT&T international data plans available for the iPhone are  
available for the iPad. Meaning rather expensive:

  20MB $25
  50MB $60
100MB $120
200MB $200

Would be interesting to compare rates to a locally-acquired data sim.

I've used these plans on a few international trips and even on the  
iPhone it's rather easy to zip through 20MB. Caching helps, for  
example, if you'll be using the Google maps app, while you have wifi  
access bring it up and navigate along your projected route or area at  
various zoom levels.

I may try to do without data this time. 90% of the time I wanted maps/ 
gps, and the rest I can probably do without. So I may pay for GPS  
software that covers Maastricht that works off of maps on the phone.
