Hey all,
So, I am finally buying myself a server that will support
virtualization properly and wanted to give vmware a whirl (previously
I have done Xen and similar) so that I have more clue, but, being a
complete vmware newbie wanted to get some help / advice from the list
as to what I need to do / get / etc.
Basically this is going to be for a single machine (I don't need to be
able to move instances around, don't need HA, etc.) and I'll be
installing Ubuntu on it and using it as a mail / webserver. I'd also
like to be able to spin up a few guest instances, for testing things,
when I need to lend someone a shell, etc. Noit sure what other info
folk might want to help me decide this :-)
VMware vSphere Hypervisor (which includes VMware ESXi and vSphere
Client is a free download) -- am I missing something obvious or will
this do everything that I need?
If not, what is the cheapest vmware solution that will?
I tried figuring this all out from vmwares site, but got lost in a
pile of 4 color glossies, all with similar (but subtly different)
marketing material and acronyms.
Mahna mahna,

Island Dressing and a bottle of chili sauce.
