has anyone tried the cheap hootch in the little bottles that the 
construction workers prefer?  some reviews say it has "notes of 
fermented tofu and jet fuel".

also, if you exit the shangri-la to the left, cross the ring road on the 
pedestrian bridge, there is a little company store for Kinmen Kaolang 
the Taiwan distiller.  Next to the bakery.  Some interesting and pretty 
looking bottles ranging from 170rmb up to several K.  If you don't have 
your heart set on local local, Taiwan is pretty close...

Gift shop at the Nikko has a small selection, at a non-extortionist 
markup based on the price of a 5th of JWB at about 50 USD (can get it 
for about 40 or less at home).  Tobacco shops all have selection if you 
know what you are looking for.
