[ietf78-tech] EDUroam connect request

Hi folks,

Today I received a call from Paul Dekkers <paul.dekkers at surfnet.nl>
from SURFnet with a request for us.

A little background info:
You probably know already, but SURFnet is the Dutch NREN (national
Research and Education Network) representative. As such, they provide
connectivity to all educational institutions and research facilities.
They are also our upstream ISP, and, BTW, reported today that their
circuits for our IETF network to the MECC are operational ;-)

SURFnet is involved in EDUroam. This is an international cooperation effort
where people can roam between institutions and, use the same credentials
to get wireless access on all institutions that are involved in this.
Please have a look at
- http://www.eduroam.org/

As they expect some of the IETF attendees to have EDUraom credentials,
they were asking if it was possible to bring up the EDUroam SSID
(in addition to what we already have) on the IETF network.

I explained to Paul about the background of the IETF78 network,
the admission control thing, etc, just so he's on speed of things.

He explained that for EDUroam, all we'd need is another SSID,
WPA2-enterprise, verification to the EDUroam radius servers.
I'd guess that splitting off another subnet, vlan, SSID would
not be a lot of effort and, importantly, something we can keep
separated from the main configs so it's not a lot of effort to
take it out should we use the same config files for Beijing.
Their main interest is to see if EDUraom "would just work"
for the people who have these credentials.

It's not my call to make, I'm not sure if the 1252's
can handle the additional config (but should, yes?),
and I promised I'd forward the request to the list to see what you think?

Geert Jan
