SURFnet is formal, but they know what they're doing and are
pretty clueful. I know (from Stavroula Moustaka) that the fiber
is already operational (measurements were done on Monday),
but they're doing more tests before they declare victory.
Prudence and all that.
And besides, there's good sideways contacts with SURFnet
should mishaps happen.
Compared to some of the stories Joel told me over the years,
expect a tame setup and a solid circuit.
Be aware that SURFnet in general doesn't do router config themselves
(at least, that was the case a few years back), but they build
change requests to a 3rd party that actually touches hardware.
Hence, it makes sense to respond to these questions in a timely fashion.
All in all, I've been impressed by the solidness of their operation.
We could do worse. A lot worse.
