btw, am using hotel net because could not get ietf-hotel to work.
multiple problems, some suggesting that somebody was fiddling with the
service as i was trying it:

- portal with dns name portal-s.meeting.ietf.org (or something like
  that, typing from memory) has cert for portal-a.meeting.ietf.org, so
  firefox gets all antsy

- portal prompts for username and password but only offers hint as to
  what one of them might be (ietf reg number).   if there was mail to
  ietf list explaining this, or paragraph in reg confirmation, i
  missed it.

fortunately, hotel net is passing tls to my mailsystem in both
directions, so this is not urgent.
